Just north of Dallas in McKinney, we found a true BBQ standard. Hutchins BBQ!
From the block to the plate!
It could be the 30 minute wait, the smell of BBQ in the air or the rustic southern feeling the restaurant gives you once you walk up. All I know is every moment spent waiting was truly worth it in the end. Making new friends from all over the world while in the line, we made our way to the meat block. We had spent time in the line deciding what we wanted, but when the time came to order we were speechless. We wanted everything from the menu! The meat cutter saw our dilemma on what to choose; he quickly jumped into action, offering us to try the $25 all you can eat. The deal was done, we got to start off with 3 meats of our choosing which I did the ribs, brisket & a chicken quarter.
A plethora of sides & veggies!
Once we had our meats we moved down the line. Since we had the all you can eat, it allowed us to get as many sides that we had wanted. Needless to say we filled our trays! The veggies & sides were self-served on a cafeteria style line. We paid and made our way to the dining area which was full of all the fixins’ you’d expect at a great barbecue joint. At this point we were running out of room on our trays. We all kinda wondered how we got away with this much food and a drink for under $30!
The Sit-down
Sitting down, we’ve never been more ready to feast. In front of us plates with all types of traditional BBQ meats & sides: brisket, ribs, pulled pork. beans, potato casserole, mac & cheese and some delicious potato salad. We dug in and feasted like kings! I can’t find enough words to explain the food we had; the brisket was moist and just melted in our mouths. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone and the sides were the perfect compliment to the meat. By the time we were finished we realized we had made a mistake, we didn’t save room for their complimentary peach cobbler and banana pudding! There was just no more room in our stomaches after the initial food we got from the all you can eat. The great news is that we were able to rest a while and just hang out. A couple of us finally got some of the peach cobbler and banana pudding. I personally couldn’t keep my eyes open; it was naptime!
The take-away
The take-away is that I hope my work takes me up north of Dallas more often so I can get me some more of this delicious BBQ. The 5 star reviews on Yelp truly are a testament to how great this BBQ really is. The waitress did mention that on weekdays a lot of times there aren’t lines mid day, however nights and weekends we should expect a wait. No matter the wait for me, I’ll definitely be back to Hutchins BBQ!
